I've nothing against trains...even high speed ones. I think the concept is great. I also think the concept of being carried about in a palanquin borne by Victoria's Secret models is great as well. Alas, I believe them both to be beyond practicality and neither is cost effective.

Candidate Obama virtually assured us that he would shut down domestic coal production through costly environmental regulations. I do wonder how he would propose to charge all these electric vehicles, coming home and plugging into their chargers right at the peak of electric demand, without any new hydroelectric, coal, gas fired or nuclear plants to make up the difference in demand? Obama wants the car you're living out of to be a hybrid.
The Left fails to acknowledge the part that private endowments would play had the government not usurped the role of patron of the arts. Just as Andrew Carnegie founded and funded libraries, modern liberals are free to spend their own money wherever they like. Unfortunately, they prefer to spend other people's money.
When liberal politicians tell you that conservatives want to "end Medicare as we know it", the operative words are "as we know it". As we know it today, Medicare is going bankrupt. If it crashes and burns under its own weight, that too will "end Medicare as we know it".

Xavier (Becerra) should run as Obama's veep in 2012. He's very slick verbally, his words mean nothing and his demonstrated knowledge of the economy and monetary policy is next to zero. Or else, he's lying, and either way would make a perfect fit with the current resident of the Oval Office.

If burning the flag in public is protected free speech saying "I hate this country", why wouldn't burning a small tube of tobacco, wrapped in paper be protected free speech saying "I like tobacco"? They both produce toxic fumes and smoke. Why is one protected and the other not?
