Border Security, Anyone?

COPENHAGEN — Ten years ago, as Denmark joined the European Union’s visa-free open travel zone, the outraged Danish People’s Party bought a decommissioned border guardhouse, vowing that one day it would be in use again. Back then, most Danes dismissed the move as a colorful publicity stunt by the newly formed right-wing party.

But last month, the Danish People’s Party was doing a victory dance, offering to donate its picturesque brick guardhouse at the German border to the government. The party had achieved its goal: Prime Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen had agreed to restore 24-hour customs control in exchange for support on a difficult budget package.

I wonder if maybe the Republican party ought not to purchase some real estate along our southern border? Not only could they fence it and defend it as they choose, but it could give them standing in suing the government to do something about our lax southern border policies.

The Least Serious President in the History of the Republic™ on Illegal Immigration

I sometimes refer to Barry as "the Least Serious President in the History of the Republic™". While Obama's shameful speech on immigration reform is still fresh in our minds, let's see how many "Pinocchios"* he'd be awarded for this speech.

They wanted a fence. Well, that fence is now basically complete.

According to John Lott,

Just 36.3 miles of the promised 700-mile double-layered fence along the 1951-mile southwest border has been completed. Remember that there were a lot of people concerned that the fence was only going to be 700 miles long to begin with.

So, roughly five percent of the promised fence, which some argued was unreasonably small to begin with. But, it gets worse (for the President's credibility):

The Government Accountability Office (GAO), Congress's investigative arm, reported in early 2009 that only 32 miles of double-layer fencing had been built. That means under President Obama, only 4.3 miles of double layer fencing has been built. This is woefully inadequate.

Obama is famous for taking credit for things he had little to no participation in. Obama votes "present" here as well. He takes credit for a "basically completed" fence, when in truth, the Barack Obama memorial fence is only 4.3 miles long.

So, we have gone above and beyond what was requested by the very Republicans who said they supported broader reform as long as we got serious about enforcement. But even though we’ve answered these concerns, I suspect there will be those who will try to move the goal posts one more time. They’ll say we need to triple the border patrol. Or quadruple the border patrol. They’ll say we need a higher fence to support reform.

Let's see what your own GAO (Government Accountability Office) has to say about your "above and beyond what was requested".

Border Patrol reported achieving varying levels of operational control for 873 of the nearly 2,000 southwest border miles at the end of fiscal year 2010

"Varying levels of operational control" for "873 of the nearly 2,000 southwest border miles". What does that mean? For starters, they're talking about "operational control" for only about 43% of our southern border. (The Barack Obama memorial fence is less than half a percent of that, and two tenths of one percent of the border. Sleep well tonight, America!)

And, by the GAO's definition, what does "operational control" mean?

Border Patrol reported that its levels of operational control for most border miles reflected its ability to respond to illegal activity after entry into the United States and not at the immediate border. Operational control encompassed two of the five levels used to classify the security level of each border mile. The two levels of control differed in the extent that Border Patrol resources were available to either deter or detect and apprehend illegal entries at the immediate border (controlled) versus a multi-tiered deployment of Border Patrol resources to deter, detect, and apprehend illegal entries after entry into the United States; sometimes 100 miles or more away (managed). GAO's preliminary analysis of the 873 border miles under operational control in 2010 showed that about 129 miles (15 percent) were classified as "controlled" and the remaining 85 percent were classified as "managed."

So, 15% of the 43% is controlled, the rest is "managed". That 15% works out to around 6.45% of the total. Hear that, America? A little over 6% of your southern border is controlled and Obama considers that "going above and beyond" what was requested to secure our borders. Obama should buy some lottery tickets. The lottery has been referred to as a tax on the math impaired!

Six percent of the border is "controlled" and Obama mocks his critics as wanting to build a "higher fence", (technically, any fence at all is higher than "no fence") to build a moat and fill it with alligators? And just how effective is that control, according to the GAO?

Border Patrol stated that operational control does not require its agents to be able to detect and apprehend all illegal entries.

So, long story short, 43% of the proposed fence on the southern border has a fence of any kind, much less the kind of fence that was promised, and Barack the Bold contributed 4.3 miles to that fence. Less than six and a half percent of the border is considered "controlled" by Border Patrol and the GAO, and even the six percent under "control" does not stop ALL activity.

"Porous borders" anyone? "Above and beyond"? Is it "moving the goal posts" to suggest that the entire border needs to be at least "controlled"? Is an additional two tenths of one percent of fencing sufficient for Obama to crow "Mission Accomplished" at the border and turn his attention back to his golf game?

Obama lied about the fence, and by implication, he lied about his participation in its "completion". He lied about moving the goal posts, and with his mocking, less than serious tone, he lied about the need to further secure our southern border.

I'd give the speech four out of five Pinocchios, even though, his lips were moving during the entire speech.

* Pinocchio: Famous for his nose growing whenever he lied.

And because I've thrown a lot of numbers at you, please note: A 36.3 mile fence works out to 1.8% of a 2,000 mile southern border.

A Very Important Question for President Obama on Border Security

The least serious president in the history of the Republic, said recently in El Paso:

“We have gone above and beyond what was requested by the very Republicans who said they supported broader reform as long as we got serious about enforcement. Maybe (next) they’ll say we need a moat. Or alligators in the moat.”

Above and beyond, eh, Barack? Are you trying to sell the same line as DHS Secretary Janet Incompetento? “the US border has never been more secure". Never more secure? Are you kidding me? Is it possible for someone to infiltrate the Washington Press Corps (pronounced "core", Mr. President) and ask one simple question?

If you've gone above and beyond what your critics have asked for, and if the border is genuinely more secure than it has ever been, can you tell us when these signs, 80 miles north of our southern border will be coming down?

"Baja Arizona": An Idea Whose Time Has Come!

TUCSON, Ariz.—On the patio of a downtown bar here last Wednesday night, a handful of people gathered over pitchers of beer to plot the creation of America's 51st state.
With copies of the Arizona constitution before them, they debated how to turn Pima County—a liberal southern swatch of Arizona that borders Mexico and includes Tucson—into "Baja Arizona."

"What's the objective?" one member asked the group, Start Our State.

"Becoming our own state and making our own decisions," said organizer Paul Eckerstrom.

I personally say: Let them try! I think "Baja Arizona" should start small, though, and then, if they show the capacity for good governance, give them a larger territory. First, let's give them that area along the border identified by our government as a place where US citizens shouldn't go. All Arizona liberals should move there, and then after successfully dealing with the problems of illegal immigration and drug smuggling, give the survivors a crack (pun intended) at governing a larger territory.

Problem solved!

Iranian Book Celebrating Suicide Bombers Found in AZ Desert

I know a lot of focus is on Egypt these days, but this story has definitely been under-reported.

Jan 27: A book celebrating suicide bombers has been found in the Arizona desert just north of the U.S.- Mexican border, authorities tell Fox News.

The book, "In Memory of Our Martyrs," was spotted Tuesday by a U.S. Border Patrol agent out of the Casa Grande substation who was patrolling a route known for smuggling illegal immigrants and drugs.

Published in Iran, it consists of short biographies of Islamic suicide bombers and other Islamic militants who died carrying out attacks.

According to internal U.S. Customs and Border Protection documents, "The book also includes letters from suicide attackers to their families, as well as some of their last wills and testaments." Each biographical page contains "the terrorist's name, date of death, and how they died."

Agents also say that the book appears to have been exposed to weather in the desert "for at least several days or weeks."

Hmm. I wonder which of the good people of Mexico simply yearning for more economic freedom in the states, looking to do the jobs Americans won't do, and looking for a better life may have dropped that one?

"At this time, DHS does not have any credible information on terrorist groups operating along the Southwest border," a Department of Homeland Security official said in a statement. "We work closely with our partners in the law enforcement and intelligence communities and as a matter of due diligence and law enforcement best practice, report anything found, no matter how significant or insignificant it may seem."

I think the operative words here are "does not have information" and "credible".

Statements from U.S. officials, including FBI director Robert Mueller, have raised serious concerns in recent years over "OTMs" -- or illegal immigrants other than Mexicans -- who have crossed the southwest border at alarming rates.

Mueller testified before the House Appropriations Committee in March 2005 that "there are individuals from countries with known Al Qaeda connections who are changing their Islamic surnames to Hispanic-sounding names and obtaining false Hispanic identities, learning to speak Spanish and pretending to be Hispanic."

Just last year, the Department of Homeland Security had in custody thousands of detainees from Afghanistan, Egypt, Iraq, Iran, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Yemen. U.S. Border Patrol statistics indicate that there were 108,025 OTMs detained in 2006, compared to 165,178 in 2005 and 44,614 in 2004.

Is the term "anchor baby" really offensive? Fox News had a story speaking of Penelope Cruz's desire to have her baby in the US as an "anchor baby".

A Republican Hispanic group, Somos Republicans, objected, saying, in part:

Penelope Cruz is admired world-wide, and comparing her unborn child to an inanimate object is demeaning.

"Comparing her unborn child to an inanimate object"? I think this may be a bit of PC run amok. Does anyone get upset when Walter Cronkite or Dan Rather was referred to as an "Anchorman ? When someone calls Katy Couric a "News Anchor", are they comparing her to an inanimate object, or describing her position in a news organization?

"Anchor baby" describes the role that an infant, born in the US to non US citizens, can play in establishing US residence and citizenship, and the possibility of additional "chain migration" of relatives. Now, those relatives are no more "chains" than the infant is an "anchor" as far as inanimate objects go, but it is descriptive of the relationship.

Now if Somos Republicans want to object to the characterizations of her motives, that's fair game. But to object to the comparison of "her unborn child to an inanimate object" is simply abusing the language.

* FYI, I am not comparing Penelope Cruz to an inanimate object. It's an analogy.

Maggie's Notebook has this video about the potential interference of adjudicating Arizona's border enforcement law by foreign nations and the seeming complicity of Eric Holder and the oxymoronically named Obama justice department.



Though the video's headline speaks of "impeaching" Obama. I am not ready to go that far. But it does seem as if the only way to rid ourselves of this biased and perhaps incompetent Attorney General Eric Holder is to fire his boss.

What Kind of Racist Would Seek to Stop "Anchor Babies"?

That would be the Dimbulb From Searchlight, Harry Reid! In 1993, Senator Reid, courting the anti-Republican Hispanic vote, no doubt, sought to end the practice.

The Washington Times notes:

Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) has introduced a comprehensive immigration reform bill (S. 1351) that includes a provision that would limit citizenship to those whose mothers are United States citizens or legal permanent residents. However, Senator Reid's proposal is to amend only the Immigration and Nationality Act, not the Constitution. Additionally, Senator Alan Simpson (R-WY) is planning to propose an immigration reform package that will include a provision similar to that of Senator Reid's. Whether or not Senator Simpson's recommendation will limit the right to citizenship to only those whose mothers are citizens or legal residents remains to be seen.

Look for Reid to do the John Kerry two-step of how he was for it before he was against it. Or something like that. Are you paying attention, Nevadans??

Who'd Have Thought? Even Baseball Players Can Be Clueless

Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher, Yovani Gallardo, is having a good year.

The numbers don’t lie.

At the All-Star break, the big right-hander has an 8-4 record, an ERA under 2.60 and has fanned 122 batters. He’s thrown two complete game shutouts and is averaging nearly ten strikeouts for every nine innings pitched.

Not bad at all.

In fact, he was selected to play in Tuesday's Major League Baseball All-Star Game, but due to an injury, he sat out.

So, what does all of this have to do with the price of knishes in Bensonhurst?

If Mr. Gallardo, 24, is to be taken at his word, he will definitely not be playing in next year's All-Star Game either, regardless of how well he may be doing.

And you can take that to the bank ... according to him.

It's not because he is planning on re-injuring himself again next year. It's not because he has mystical powers and can see into his future. It's not because he is purposely going to be playing subpar baseball in 2011 just to prove himself right.

No, his certitude is based on the fact that next year's All-Star Game is slated to be played in Phoenix, Arizona - the most racist, hate-filled, bigoted, xenophobic jurisdiction ever to be created by the human animal (save for maybe the Fox News Channel Studios in Manhattan) - and Gallardo has decided that a stand must be taken against that state's barbaric Undocumented Democrats Law (i.e., Arizona's Illegal Immigration Law).

Ben Walker of the Associated Press writes:

Yovani Gallardo is firm. Even if he's fortunate enough to make the All-Star team again next summer, he'll skip it.

"If the game is in Arizona, I will totally boycott," the Milwaukee Brewers pitcher said Monday.

A year before Phoenix is set to host baseball's big event, the state's new immigration law kept drawing the attention of major leaguers.

Kansas City reliever Joakim Soria, who leads the majors with 25 saves, said he would support a Latino protest and stay away. Detroit closer Jose Valverde can see himself steering clear, too.

"It's a really delicate issue," said Toronto outfielder Jose Bautista, who leads the majors with 24 home runs.

"Hopefully, there are some changes in the law before then. We have to back up our Latin communities."

"If I do get chosen, I don't know what I'm going to do," he said.

And if, for instance, Caucasians decided that they would refrain from paying federal taxes until the most worthless Attorney General in American history, Eric Holder, loses his job, saying, "We have to back up our white communities!"  (because of Holder's decision not to prosecute thug members of the New Black Panther Party for intimidating white voters), is there an abacus in all of human creation that could calculate how may times the word "racism" would rear its ugly head?

Has the young 24-year old pitcher (or any of his fellow Hispanic ballplayers who are moved to make such an important social stand) actually read the Arizona law? Or is he (like so many others) just reacting to the metastasizing cancer of disinformation that continues to infest the lamestream media?

Take a guess.

Incidentally, Gallardo pitched for Mexico (the nation of his birth) in the 2009 World Baseball Classic. Mexico's immigration laws are far stricter and exponentially more discriminating than Arizona's. Surely Gallardo is aware that those stifling restrictions extend to the "Latin communities" that exist south of Mexico's southern border.

I'm certain Gallardo must have taken a decisive public stand against Mexico's harsh immigration policies at some point, being the social crusader he is. Unfortunately, to this point, I haven't been able to find it just yet. But I promise you: I am Googling in double-time.

Soria pitched in both the 2009 and 2010 World Baseball Classic for Mexico as well.

And oddly enough, both of these men pitch here in the United States ... where the federal immigration laws are almost identical to Arizona's.

Go figure.

Insert Foot in Mouth Here: David Axelrod on Arizona Illegal Immigration law

Border enforcement from Obama is about is believable as David Axelrod's comb-over.

The Hill has this from Chicago-criminal David Axelrod (and Obama senior adviser). My analysis in bold:

White House Senior Adviser David Axelrod on Sunday defended the administration's lawsuit against Arizona's immigration law, saying state laws such as the controversial one in the border state "dillute" federal efforts to secure the border.

The Federal government has refused to enforce Federal border laws on the books. The obvious here being massive voting blocs that illegals represent, cheap labor and a demographic conducive to the Leviathan.

"One of our concerns about this law is it will divert our effort to go after criminals," Axelrod said on "Fox News Sunday."

If the Feds were to 'go after' criminals, they would seal the border and deport criminal illegals that overcrowd our prison systems. Anyone that thinks that the Feds are seriously going after the criminal-border element is a lunatic.

"We can't have a patchwork of 50 states developing their own immigration policy," he added. Axelrod defended the federal government's efforts on illegal immigration. "No administration has been tougher on enforcement, no administration has gone after the employers the way we have," he said.

Ok, so then why are you and your cronies mum about 'sanctuary cities' such as San Francisco that are in direct violation of Federal immigration law? Did you know that there are dozens of sanctuary cities in California alone, all in direct violation of Federal law?

Exit question - Why haven't the Feds sued those cities? Why have they allowed the 'patchwork of cities' that are breaking the law? Why? Selective law application like this from the White House is what third world regimes are made of.

Did you notice the cowardly nature of this foul mouthed POS? He sits, in the safety of his car and shouts challenges and insults over to old men across the street, all the while with his foot poised over the gas pedal so that he can run away like a frightened, scalded dog if necessary.

If he had been a real man, he might have gotten out of his car, taken his Mexican flag across the street and looked these men in the eyes as he insulted them. As it was, for all his cursing and brave talk, he himself is nothing but a pendejo.
