What Would Jesus Cut?

...Religious groups with a political agenda are as American as the First Amendment, and Sojourners has not been shy about weighing in on the current congressional fight over federal spending. On its website, in e-mails sent to members of Congress, and most recently in a full-page ad in the political newspaper Politico, Sojourners has been asking: “What Would Jesus Cut?’’

The ad, signed by Sojourners’ president, Jim Wallis, and other leaders of the Christian left, argues that “a budget is a moral document’’ and the moral test of any nation is how it treats the poor and vulnerable.

I wonder if Jesus would have funded "Piss Christ" or some of Robert Mapplethorpe's photos? How convenient for anyone to be concerned about what Jesus would cut after totally ignoring the items that he would not have spent money on in the first place!

Of course, leftists like Janeane Garofalo only object to a perceived Christian prayer and would not do so if it were Muslim, Hindu, hare krishna, or the all-encompassing leftist God - Gaia. Not to mention that all Presidents have done this throughout history and that it in no way acquiesces to 'anti-intellectualism' to do so.

Mojave Cross Mysteriously Replaced - "Must Go" says Park Service

Ten days ago, we noted a bit of late night vandalism "Thieves Steal Desert Cross" Here is a strange bit of follow up:

A week after a cross was stolen from a Mojave Desert war memorial that played a key role in a recent Supreme Court decision, a different cross was discovered early Thursday morning at the same site.

The National Park Service said in a press release Thursday afternoon that the replica cross would be removed.

Late Thursday, Mojave National Preserve spokeswoman Linda Slater told reporters in California that the new cross is illegal and must come down.

Must come down? Why? The Supreme Court has ruled that having a cross at the memorial is Constitutional. What would be the harm in leaving this cross in place until the park service got their act together to decide how to reconstruct the memorial and then actually do it? I could see if someone replaced the cross with a swastika or a statue of Obama how it could be offensive, but what is the harm or replacing a cross with a cross?

Thieves Steal Desert Cross

What could not be done legally in court, was done by cowards in the dead of night.

The 7-foot-tall metal cross in a 75-year-old war memorial that withstood the heat of the Mojave Desert and a blazing battle in the Supreme Court over its legality was ripped down and stolen Sunday night, according to federal officials.

"This is an outrage, akin to desecrating people's graves," said Kelly Shackelford, president of the Liberty Institute, which represents the caretakers of the Mojave Desert War Memorial. "It's a disgraceful attack on the selfless sacrifice of our veterans. We will not rest until this memorial is re-installed."

The National Park Service says someone cut the metal bolts holding the metal-pipe cross to the top of the memorial's Sunrise Rock and made off with it Sunday night or before dawn on Monday.

This is the second such incident in recent times. Last December, Holocaust deniers removed the historic "Arbeit Macht Frei" sign from Auschwitz that gave evidence to WWII atrocities.
Here we have Christ deniers who cannot bear the thought of a simple cross in the desert which is hardly ever seen. A cross that gives evidence to the depravity of their hearts.

Forgive my propensity to profile, but I don't see conservatives or Christians doing this...

Update: I just thought of another similar occurrence from 2001:
