Reaganite has the scoop on the story that broke last night, apparently Paypal sent Pamela Geller of Atlas Shrugs fame a notice that they are shutting her account down due to "hate":
Paypal has taken on a political agenda apparently... one where truth is now the new "hate"xxx
Pamela Gellar has been told that her account will be closed if she does not remove the PP app from her famed Atlas Shrugs political blog- named of-course for Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged". The site is based out of NYC, and if you're not familar has a particular focus on fighting terrorism and illegal immigration.
Reaganite has more on the story, be sure to read the rest. My take is this. Paypal is privately owned therefore they should be free to service, or not, any customer. However, if Paypal is to use the so-called "hate" card against sites like Pamela Geller and Atlas Shrugs then why do they partner up with a radical site Revolution Muslim.com (just as an example)? Revolution Muslim.com is the site that ran the not-so-veiled threat against the lives of South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone and as you can clearly see their is the Paypal widget (screenshot, bottom left):
Based on the example above alone I would say that Paypal's actions are Orwellian at best and kow-towing to jihadist-sympathizing pressure at worst. I'm sure that one could find hundreds of examples of sites that Paypal partners up with that would be considered 'hate' by someone.
But then again, my version of free speech is the statist/socialist/liberal/progressive's 'hate' speech.
